Everyone wants to be "ghetto" but no one wants to be poor. Who dips in the cultural stew? Selling more lifestyle than product, commercial industries depend on so-called urban aesthetic (read black aesthetic) to sell an identity that reflects the styles and trends of people at the margins. It's the people deemed urban who feed every aspect of popular culture but more often than not stay hungry. Our Radio is Bigger than Yours satirizes the history of Pop Art, and the visual display of contemporary hip hop sensibilities. Exaggerating colors and hip trends, this series explores the symbolic currency of blackness as evident in current consumer and cultural production.
